Fr Isaac-El J. Fernandes, S.J.

Having completed secondary school at St. Georges in 2001, Isaac Fernandes joined the Jesuits in 2003, beginning with his novitiate in Zambia Lusaka. He then proceeded onto a BA (Hons) in Philosophy at Arrupe College in Harare, which he completed in 2009. From 2009 – 2011 he taught Mathematics and Religious Education at Visitation High School, Makumbi. He then left for Paris where he obtained a Canonical Baccalaureate in Theology at the Jesuit faculties of Centre Sèvres. Returning to Zimbabwe in 2014, he was ordained a priest and spent 4 years at St. Peter’s Mbare, the last 3 of which he was parish priest, as well as chaplain to the L’Arche community in Waterfalls. In 2018 he left for Boston, where he obtained a Masters in Systematic Theology. In 2021 he returned to Zimbabwe and was appointed as the National Chaplain for the National Movement of Catholic Students, as well as the Country Youth Delegate for Zimbabwe in the Jesuit province of Southern Africa. In 2022 in moved to Lusaka where he is currently serving as Treasurer for the Jesuit province of Southern Africa. From September 2024 to March 2025, he did his tertianship at Xolile Keteyi community in Zinkwazi, South Africa.
